Thanks to the Passerelle du 49e, finding yourself riding in the heart of the abundant and wild nature of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region is easier than you think… Inaugurated in 2018, the circuit is located in the Parc régional des Grandes rivières and easily accessible for all lovers of mountain biking or side-by-side.

But what exactly is the Passerelle du 49e? Be ready to discover 240 kilometers of trails dedicated for quads, ATVs and snowmobiles! Open all year long in the north of Lac Saint-Jean, these trails are safe and environmentally friendly.

Throughout your excursion, you can admire North Lac Saint-Jean’s great rivers, be it the Mistassibi (“large river”), the Péribonka (“river digging in the sand”) and the Mistassini (“large rock”). Note that these rivers were also traveled many years ago by the ancestors of well known novelist Michel Jean. The Ashuapmushuan river (“where the moose stands”) is also worth a visit. These waterways are spanned by seven bridges.

You will also find yourself in the heart of the Boreal forest, covering all the Nitassinan or the hinterland of Saguenay. With its many conifers such as fir, spruce, larch, a few deciduous trees and a great diversity of mammals, the boreal forest reveals itself through the miles and viewpoints along the way.

Of course you’ll have to stop from time to time, for instance to fill up the gas tank, to get a snack or even to take some rest and sleep, the tour leads you to the discovery of many charming villages like Normandin, Saint-Thomas-Didyme, Notre-Dame-de-Lorette or Saint-Ludger-de-Milot.

Starting this fall, if everything goes as planned, the Passerelle du 49e circuit will connect the regional park of Grandes-Rivières to Monts-Valin, thanks to the construction of a new bridge on the Péribonka River. The existing trails of the Monts-Valin massif can be connected to the Passerelle du 49e!
